Philiswa

This week we meet Philiswa, that is the name her family gave her before she was separated from them.

Parents have different roles to play in their children’s lives. A lot of times as parents, we see ourselves first before our children. We need to be happy so we get divorced, remarry and start new families. Or we have children then decide we don’t want to be together or live together so one parent takes a child and the other moves on with his/her life somewhere else. Philiswa’s story brings to the fore those kinds of issues. It forces us to reassess the way we see “starting a family” or keeping our families together regardless of our romantic feelings for each other. As parents that do not live together, we ought to continue parenting our children even if we live in separate houses.
